Chinese Vice President Calls for Expanded Economic and Trade Cooperation with Belarus

Date:

BEIJING - Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has called for deeper economic and trade cooperation between China and Belarus, emphasizing the need to expand bilateral trade volume and foster new forms of digital economic collaboration. The remarks were made during the Belarus special event 'Big market for all: Export to China,' held in Minsk on Sunday.

Han highlighted that over three decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the traditional friendship between China and Belarus has grown steadily stronger. Following a successful meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko last August, both nations have been actively charting a new blueprint for bilateral relations, injecting fresh momentum into cooperation across various sectors.

Addressing the current global political and economic landscape, Han noted that profound and complex changes pose significant challenges to global free trade and national development. In response, he reiterated President Xi's stance that global solidarity and cooperation remain the only viable path forward.

Belarus was among the first countries to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative. Han affirmed that China regards Belarus as a major trade and economic partner in the Eurasian region. Moving forward, China is committed to strengthening policy alignment and industrial cooperation with Belarus. Key areas of focus include facilitating trade channels, expanding overall trade volume, and promoting efficient, convenient transportation via the China-Europe Railway Express.

The initiative aims to create favorable conditions for the sustained development of bilateral trade while jointly advancing the construction of an open global economy. Han also emphasized that this year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, during which the country remains steadfast in its fundamental national policy of opening up and sharing development opportunities with the world.

The Minsk event, jointly organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, served as the first overseas session of the 2026 'Export to China' series. It brought together over 40 Chinese enterprises and more than 200 Belarusian firms for matchmaking. The gathering provided a direct channel for Belarusian products to access the vast Chinese market, culminating in on-site business meetings and agreements on multiple cooperative projects.

Han concluded by welcoming Belarus to seize these opportunities, continue expanding the scope of trade cooperation, and jointly create a new chapter in China-Belarus economic relations that delivers win-win outcomes for both nations.
