June Android Drop Brings Smarter Safety, Style, and Sharing Features

Date:

Google has unveiled its latest round of feature updates with the June Android Drop, bringing a fresh wave of personalization, safety, and connectivity enhancements to the Android ecosystem. Announced on June 2, 2026, by Seang Chau, VP and GM of Android Platform, these updates span across multiple popular Google apps including Phone by Google, Google Photos, Google Play Books, and Gboard.

Smarter Call Protection with Fake Call Detection

One of the standout features in this release is fake call detection, designed to combat the growing threat of phone scammers impersonating trusted contacts. Phone by Google can now verify whether an incoming call is genuinely originating from a contact's device. If a scammer attempts to spoof a number you trust, Android will surface a warning alert so users can quickly end the call. The feature is available on devices running Android 12 and above that have Phone by Google installed, adding a critical layer of security for millions of users worldwide.

Circle to Search Gets Fashion-Forward

Google's popular Circle to Search feature is expanding beyond simple lookups. Users can now circle an entire outfit — from tops to footwear — to find every piece without ever switching apps. Google even tapped celebrity Paris Hilton to showcase the feature, highlighting how effortlessly users can hunt down a complete look. This enhanced visual search capability is rolling out to all Android 14+ devices that support Circle to Search.

Google Photos Wardrobe: Your Personal Digital Closet

Google Photos is introducing a novel Wardrobe feature that automatically catalogs clothing items from your photo library into a personal digital closet. Users can mix and match outfits, try them on virtually, and share their favorite looks with friends — all from within the Photos app. The rollout begins next week for eligible users in the United States, India, and Brazil on devices running Android 10 and above.

Family Safety Features for Kids and Teens

The Personal Safety app is getting a significant family-focused expansion. Children under 13 will gain access to tools like displaying medical information and setting emergency contacts directly on their device's lock screen. They will also be able to enable car crash detection, which automatically dials emergency services and notifies emergency contacts after a collision. Meanwhile, teens can leverage location-sharing features such as Safety Check and real-time sharing with emergency contacts. The Personal Safety app is available globally.

Cross-Platform Sharing Gets a Boost

In a move that further bridges the Android-iPhone divide, Quick Share now works with AirDrop on more Android devices. Users can securely send photos, videos, and documents to iPhone users with or without an internet connection, making cross-platform file sharing smoother than ever before.

Book Insights and Emoji Kitchen Updates

Google Play Books introduces Book Insights, an AI-powered reading companion that provides recaps of what you have read and lets you dive deeper into themes, context, or characters by highlighting passages. Available starting today for select English-language titles, including thousands available at no charge. Meanwhile, Gboard's Emoji Kitchen gains fresh sticker combinations — from cute critters to blingy bees — giving users more ways to express themselves in messages.

These updates arrive just weeks after Google's I/O 2026 conference and build on the momentum of Android 17's upcoming release. Users can learn more at android.com/drop.
