Apple has revealed a major expansion of its Apple Intelligence platform at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026, introducing powerful new AI features across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
The headline announcement is the next-generation Apple Intelligence system, which brings significant upgrades to photo editing, web browsing, messaging, and smart home management. The features will be available when the new operating systems roll out later this year.
Smarter Photos Editing
The Photos app now uses more powerful image models for advanced editing capabilities. A new Spatial Reframing feature allows users to touch and drag a photo to preview a perspective shift in real time, essentially editing images as if the camera had been repositioned in the original scene. The system generates new content only where perspective has shifted, maintaining consistency with the original capture.
An upgraded Extend tool lets users straighten horizons without cropping or adjust aspect ratios, while the Clean Up tool now handles complex scenes with more realistic infill when removing distractions from photos.
Safari Gets AI Overhaul
Safari receives several major AI enhancements. The browser can now automatically organise tabs into relevant topics, placing new tabs into existing groups or creating new ones as needed. A new Notify Me feature monitors web pages for changes and alerts users, useful for tracking restocks and price drops.
Perhaps the most innovative addition is Describe an Extension, which lets users describe a Safari extension they would like to have, and the browser generates a custom extension directly in the toolbar. The Passwords app can now automatically fix weak and compromised passwords with a single tap, navigating websites to update credentials on behalf of users.
Image Playground Goes Photorealistic
Apple has upgraded Image Playground with a new generative model running on Private Cloud Compute, enabling photorealistic image creation in virtually any style. Users can edit generated images with prompts, or by tapping, circling, or brushing to highlight objects for moving or resizing. The feature now generates Lock Screen wallpapers and Contact Posters with customisable aspect ratios.
Messaging, Calls, and Smart Home
The Messages app offers one-tap context-aware suggestions based on conversations, such as creating reminders or finding relevant photos. Smart Reply in Mail and Messages now mirrors users personal writing styles. A new Call Context feature surfaces relevant business information like confirmation codes directly in the Phone app during calls, running entirely on-device.
The Home app gains AI-generated video descriptions that summarise events captured by smart home cameras without users needing to watch full clips. Users can also search through camera feeds for specific events like package deliveries.
All new AI features are powered by Apple Silicon and Private Cloud Compute, with the company emphasising that personal data stays private and is never accessible to Apple. The supported device list for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27 has been confirmed separately, with most devices from the past three to four years expected to be compatible.
