Hong Kong Police Commissioner Inspects Passing-Out Parade of 159 Police Cadets at Police College

Date:

Hong Kong Police Commissioner Mr Chow Yat-ming inspected the passing-out parade of the second cohort of the Police Cadet Training programme at the Hong Kong Police College on June 13, witnessing 159 cadets successfully complete 30 weeks of professional training.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr Chow noted that the Diploma of Applied Education (DAE) - Police Cadet Training programme, which was launched in 2024, has evolved to become increasingly systematic, flexible and practical. Drawing on experience from the inaugural cohort, the second cohort saw the course duration extended from 22 to 30 weeks, with additional instructors and manpower resources allocated to provide cadets with an enhanced learning environment.

Mr Chow emphasised that the programme helps cadets consolidate knowledge, build abilities, and strengthen self-confidence, while crucially nurturing team spirit. He highlighted the five-day, four-night hell week outdoor experiential training, during which cadets endured extreme physical and mental challenges that fostered mutual support and strengthened team cohesion.

Self-confidence provides the strength to stand firm, while teamwork enables one to journey further, Mr Chow told the graduating cadets. He noted that the cadets overcame various challenges during the rigorous 30-week training and developed solid confidence. Instilled with a can-do spirit, they can stay resolute in the face of difficulties and challenges. With mutual trust, complementarity, and a shared goal, the power of a team is multiplied, allowing them to go farther, he said.

The Commissioner encouraged the cadets to persevere, equip themselves, and fulfil their proper role in the team. He stressed that no one in the Force fights alone, emphasising that the team provides staunch support to every individual. He expressed his hope that the cadets would become members of the Force, jointly safeguard Hong Kong, and contribute to national development.

The DAE - Police Cadet Training programme is co-organised by the Police College with the Caritas Institute of Community Education, the Hong Kong College of Technology, and the Hong Kong Institute of Technology, with serving police officers serving as instructors. Students who successfully complete the programme and pass the Police Constable selection process may commence foundation training at the Police College upon graduation.

Applications for the 2026/27 programme are now open, with the deadline set for July 22. Further details are available on the programme website. The passing-out parade marks another milestone in Hong Kong ongoing efforts to strengthen its police force through structured cadet training, building a pipeline of well-trained officers ready to serve the community and maintain public safety across the city.
