Apple Unveils Next-Generation Apple Intelligence: AI-Powered Tools for Photos, Safari, Messages, and More
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Apple today introduced the next generation of Apple Intelligence, powered by a bold new architecture that integrates the latest Apple Foundation Models deep into Apple's platforms while maintaining the company's industry-leading privacy protections. The announcement, made during WWDC 2026, brings powerful AI capabilities into everyday apps and experiences across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro.
Revolutionary Photo Editing Tools
The Photos app receives three major new AI-powered features. Spatial Reframing lets users improve the composition of an image after it has been taken, while the new Extend tool allows users to expand their images to give subjects more breathing room, straighten crooked horizons, or adjust aspect ratios without cropping out anything important. Clean Up has also been significantly upgraded, removing distractions with better quality and more natural-looking infill than ever before.
Smarter Safari Browsing
Apple Intelligence brings several intelligent tools to Safari. The browser can now automatically organize tabs into topics, and a new Notify Me feature lets users ask Safari to monitor web pages for changes and send notifications when updates are detected. Perhaps most impressively, Describe an Extension allows users to create custom Safari extensions simply by describing what they want — no coding required.
Enhanced Communication and Scheduling
New Apple Intelligence features help users manage communication more effectively. In Messages, relevant one-tap suggestions appear based on conversation context, with these capabilities also extending to Mail. The Phone app introduces Call Context, which proactively surfaces relevant information — like confirmation codes or reservation numbers — when users call a business. Users can also add or modify events in Calendar simply by describing them.
Photorealistic Image Playground
Image Playground receives a major upgrade, allowing users to create photorealistic images with even more power. Users can modify their images by describing what they want or using touch-based controls, making creative expression more accessible than ever.
Home App and Shortcuts
The Home app now leverages Apple Intelligence to understand related accessory notifications as a single activity. It includes generated video descriptions from security cameras, allows users to search through camera clips, and elevates noteworthy clips to the top of Search results.
Privacy-First Architecture
All of these features are built on Apple's bold new architecture for Apple Intelligence, which uses the next generation of Apple Foundation Models running on device and on servers through Private Cloud Compute. When Private Cloud Compute handles users' requests, their personal data is not stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else.
Availability
The new features are available for developer testing starting today through the Apple Developer Program, with a public beta arriving next month. Users who enable Apple Intelligence on supported devices will have access this fall with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. Apple Intelligence supports English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and more.
