Google Expands Gemini in Chrome to Latin America, Africa, Middle East and More Markets

Date:

Google has announced the expansion of its Gemini in Chrome AI features to users in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and additional markets, bringing powerful browsing assistance to millions more users worldwide. The rollout, detailed on the official Google Blog, covers both desktop and iOS platforms starting this month.

Gemini in Chrome acts as a personalized browsing assistant directly integrated into the browser experience. Users can ask the AI assistant to summarize lengthy web pages, compare information across multiple open tabs, and access deep integrations with Google's ecosystem of apps — all without leaving the page they are on.

Among the most notable capabilities is the ability to schedule meetings directly via Google Calendar, check location details through Google Maps, draft and send emails with Gmail, and ask questions about YouTube videos — all handled through the Gemini in Chrome side panel. This seamless integration represents a significant step forward in making AI an everyday browsing companion rather than a separate tool that requires switching contexts.

Nano Banana 2 and Enhanced Image Capabilities

The update also introduces new Nano Banana 2 capabilities, which allow users to transform online images using simple text prompts directly in the Gemini side panel. This feature brings generative AI-powered image editing into the browser itself, giving users the ability to modify and enhance images they encounter while browsing.

Gemini in Chrome also gains contextual memory, enabling the assistant to remember context from past conversations. This means users can pick up where they left off in previous sessions, making the AI assistant feel more continuous and personalized over time.

Personal Intelligence for Subscribers

For users subscribed to Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, or Google AI Ultra plans, the update unlocks Personal Intelligence capabilities on desktop. This feature connects the assistant to a user's Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Search history to deliver highly tailored, context-aware answers to questions. Personal Intelligence essentially gives the AI a rich understanding of the user's personal data ecosystem, enabling it to provide answers that are unique to each individual's digital life.

Security and Privacy

Google has emphasized that the entire Gemini in Chrome experience is built with security in mind. The company's large language models are trained to recognize known threats, including prompt injection attacks, and include built-in safeguards that ask for user confirmation before completing sensitive actions. This ensures that while the AI is more capable than ever, users remain in full control of their browsing experience and data.

The expansion marks a significant milestone in Google's strategy to embed AI directly into its most widely used products. Chrome, as the world's most popular web browser with billions of users, serves as the ideal platform for bringing AI-powered assistance to the mainstream. By expanding to Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, Google is ensuring that these advanced capabilities reach a diverse global audience rather than remaining limited to early-access markets.

Users in the newly supported regions can access Gemini in Chrome by updating their browser to the latest version and enabling the AI features through Chrome's settings menu. The rollout is expected to continue progressively across additional markets in the coming weeks.
