Johor Reset Movement Divisions to Join Parti Wawasan Negara Ahead of State Polls

Date:

All 26 Reset Movement divisions in Johor are set to become part of the newly-formed Parti Wawasan Negara (PWN) as the party prepares to announce whether and where it will contest the upcoming Johor state election, according to state coordinator Datuk Zulkifli Bujang.

Speaking to reporters in Johor Baru, Zulkifli confirmed that the entire state-level apparatus of the Reset Movement — formerly known as Gerakan Reset Malaysia — would transition into PWN, marking a move to consolidate the Reset Movement's Johor network under the PWN banner.

"All 26 divisions in Johor are set to become part of Parti Wawasan Negara as we look at contesting the state polls," Zulkifli said, adding that the newly-formed party was also considering possible political cooperation or understandings with other parties ahead of the election.

The move follows last Saturday's announcement by Reset chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin that Gerakan Reset Malaysia would operate under the banner of Parti Wawasan Negara as part of broader efforts to strengthen political cooperation with PAS and other like-minded parties in the country.

Hamzah had previously stated that Parti Wawasan Negara had been established as a unity platform and would work alongside PAS to build a more comprehensive political understanding ahead of the upcoming state elections in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan. The absorption of the Reset Movement's Johor divisions into PWN represents a practical step in materialising that alliance at the ground level.

With nomination day set for June 27 and polling set for July 11, the party is racing to establish its electoral footprint across the state's 56 state seats. The development also comes as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi extended a cautious welcome to new Malay-based political parties, saying they were free to form as long as they helped unite rather than further divide the community.

"Any individual or political figure was free to establish a new party as long as it helped unite Malays rather than deepen existing divisions," Zahid said after an event in Johor Baru, in what was widely seen as a response to the formation of PWN.

The Johor state election is shaping up to be a multi-cornered contest with Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, and new parties such as PWN are expected to clarify their role in the contest in the coming days.

The development adds to uncertainty in Johor, where established coalitions and newer political platforms are still finalising their strategies before nomination day.
