Hong Kong used a major European technology summit in Luxembourg to promote itself as a gateway for AI, finance and innovation investment, as the city seeks to attract more international technology companies.
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, together with InvestHK, represented Hong Kong at NEXUS Luxembourg 2026, a European artificial intelligence and technology summit held in Luxembourg on June 10–11. The summit drew approximately 10,000 participants, 150 speakers and more than 250 startups from over 50 countries, according to the HKSAR Government.
Shirley Yung, Hong Kong's Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, delivered a presentation highlighting the city's position as a research and talent hub, its global financial centre status, and its business environment for technology firms.
"The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has positioned AI as a focus of our I&T strategy, developing it as a core industry while also harnessing its potential as a powerful enabler to upgrade traditional sectors," Yung said, according to the HKSAR Government. She also referred to the Government's AI+ and Finance+ policy directions, which aim to support technology adoption and strengthen Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre.
She highlighted the Greater Bay Area as a platform for innovation, research collaboration and market access. A Hong Kong booth at the event provided attendees with information on investment and business opportunities in the city.
NEXUS Luxembourg is described as Europe's leading AI and technology summit. The Brussels ETO, one of Hong Kong's overseas economic and trade offices, participates in such events as part of ongoing efforts to attract European technology companies and investment to Hong Kong.
