FBI Says It Disrupted Alleged Plot Targeting White House UFC Event

Date:

FBI says it disrupted an alleged plot targeting the UFC event held on the White House South Lawn on Sunday, with several people taken into custody after a multi-state operation, according to US officials.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency learned of the threat on June 10 and acted swiftly. Several people have been taken into custody, according to US officials. US media reports said investigators were examining a wider network that may have involved more than 20 people.

Authorities said the alleged plot involved drones and firearms, according to court documents. The FBI and Secret Service worked together throughout the investigation.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the agency "worked around the clock to identify those responsible and hold them accountable." Court filings will provide formal details on the charges.

US media reported that thousands attended the invite-only UFC event, with larger crowds watching from a nearby fan zone. The event coincided with President Trump's 80th birthday celebration.
