PAS Appoints Annuar Musa as Johor Election Director

Date:

With the Johor state assembly dissolved on June 1 and elections due within 60 days, PAS has appointed former federal minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa as its state election director.

Mohd Firdaus Jaffar, Johor PAS information chief, was quoted by Malay Mail as saying that Annuar's appointment aims to strengthen the party's election preparations and coordination. The party machinery in Johor has been instructed to remain united and focused on the approaching polls, he added.

Annuar, 70, is a former Umno leader who served in multiple federal cabinet positions before joining PAS in 2023. He has since played an active role in both the party and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, particularly on political strategy.

The appointment signals PAS's intention to mount a serious campaign in Johor amid a significant shift in the opposition landscape. Mohd Firdaus confirmed that Johor PAS supports the central leadership's decision to end political cooperation with Bersatu, a move that reshapes electoral strategy across multiple states. He said the issue was discussed at a special meeting where members unanimously committed to respecting the decision.

Johor PAS does not believe the split with Bersatu will affect efforts to unite the ummah, Mohd Firdaus said, adding that the state chapter will continue to support any electoral pact decided by the party's central leadership.
