PPP Seeks Two Johor Seats, Says It Will Accept BN Decision

Date:

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has expressed its intention to contest two state seats in the upcoming Johor state election, party president Datuk Dr J. Loga Bala Mohan confirmed.

Speaking after the sixth PPP Supreme Council meeting in Johor Bahru, Loga Bala Mohan said the matter had been conveyed to Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during a meeting. However, he stressed that the party would accept any decision made by the coalition leadership.

“We give the Menteri Besar (Onn Hafiz) space to make a decision. We have an understanding with them (BN) and we will resolve this through consensus. We will not make any demand if seats are not allocated,” he told a press conference.

Loga Bala Mohan, who will lead the PPP election machinery in Johor, said the party would assist BN throughout the campaign for the state election, regardless of the final seat allocation.

In a related development, he revealed that PPP also intends to contest two state seats in the Negeri Sembilan state election, which is scheduled for August 1. However, he noted that the matter had yet to be discussed with Negeri Sembilan BN leadership and would be negotiated at a later stage.

The Johor state election is set for July 11, with nomination day on June 27 and early voting on July 7. Negeri Sembilan voters will go to the polls on August 1, with nominations on July 18 and early voting on July 28.

PPP’s announcement comes as BN prepares to mobilise its full election machinery for both state polls. The coalition is expected to finalise its candidate list and seat allocations in the coming days.

The polls are expected to test how BN and PH manage federal cooperation while preparing for separate state-level campaigns.
