US Military Conducts Airstrike Killing Venezuelan Gang Leader

US military forces conducted an airstrike in Venezuela that resulted in the death of Hector Guerrero Flores, the alleged leader of the notorious Tren de Aragua criminal organization, according to statements from President Donald Trump.

The military operation was described by Trump as a swift and lethal kinetic strike carried out by the United States Southern Command at his direction. The president announced the operation on his social media platform Truth Social, characterizing it as a successful execution against a high-value target.

Guerrero Flores, known by his alias Niño Guerrero, had led Tren de Aragua for an extended period, making him a priority target for US law enforcement agencies. The gang has been designated by the Trump administration as a foreign terrorist organization, accused of engaging in irregular warfare against American interests.

The strike comes amid an evolving relationship between the United States and Venezuela following significant political changes in Caracas. American forces previously conducted a raid in January that resulted in the seizure of then-President Nicolas Maduro, who faced criminal charges in New York related to alleged collaboration with the criminal group.

Trump stated that the operation was coordinated closely with our friends in Venezuela, indicating cooperation with the current Venezuelan government. Venezuelan authorities confirmed their participation in the joint operation, though specific details about the location and circumstances remain limited.

This military action represents an expansion of US operations in Latin America targeting criminal organizations that Washington has classified as terrorist threats. The Trump administration has pushed to intensify cooperation with Venezuelas interim government, including lifting sanctions on officials and collaborating on oil extraction projects.

The airstrike footage released by Trump showed a green building and adjacent shed being destroyed in the attack, with debris visible in the air following the explosion. The visual confirmation of the strike adds to the administrations public messaging about its anti-terrorism efforts.

Tren de Aragua has been described as one of Latin Americas most dangerous criminal organizations, with operations extending beyond Venezuelas borders. The groups activities have reportedly prompted increased security cooperation between the United States and several Latin American nations.

The operation raises questions about the evolving US-Venezuela security relationship and the extent of American military involvement in operations within Venezuelan territory. Regional analysts expect further details to emerge as both governments provide additional briefings on the military achievement.
