Volkswagen Reveals All-New Electric ID. Polo: World Premiere of the Iconic City Car's Electric Future

Date:

Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new electric ID. Polo, marking a historic new chapter for one of the most successful nameplates in automotive history. With over 20 million units sold across multiple generations, the Polo is now entering the electric era — completely reimagined and systematically geared towards the future.

Developed in Wolfsburg, the all-electric ID. Polo represents a comprehensive transformation of the iconic city car. While retaining the Polo's legendary practicality and compact dimensions, the new ID. Polo leverages Volkswagen's modular electric drive (MEB) platform to deliver an entirely new driving experience tailored for the modern era.

"The Polo has been a cornerstone of Volkswagen's success for decades, and now it enters a new, electric chapter," said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. "The ID. Polo is much more than just a city car — it is a bold statement of Volkswagen's commitment to making electric mobility accessible to millions of people around the world. It stays true to the Polo's core values of quality, practicality, and driving fun, while embracing the benefits of fully electric propulsion."

The ID. Polo boasts a clean, modern design language that evolves the Polo's familiar silhouette into the electric age. The exterior features smooth surfaces, aerodynamic optimization, and distinctive lighting signatures that give the ID. Polo a progressive and unmistakable appearance. Despite its compact footprint, the MEB platform's skateboard architecture — with the battery pack integrated into the floor — frees up interior space, providing a surprisingly roomy cabin that comfortably seats five passengers.

Volkswagen has equipped the ID. Polo with the latest-generation electric drivetrain technology, offering a range suitable for both urban commuting and longer journeys. The model features the brand's most advanced infotainment system, over-the-air update capability, and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems that make every journey safer and more relaxing.

The interior design follows Volkswagen's new design philosophy, centered around digitalization and intuitive operation. A large central touchscreen serves as the command center, while a compact digital instrument cluster provides essential driving information. High-quality materials and thoughtful ergonomics ensure that the ID. Polo lives up to the premium standards Volkswagen has established with its ID. family.

Charging capabilities are designed for maximum convenience, with support for fast charging that can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in a short time. The ID. Polo is also compatible with bidirectional charging technology, allowing owners to use the vehicle's battery as a home energy storage solution — a feature that aligns with Volkswagen's holistic approach to electric mobility.

The world premiere of the ID. Polo comes at a pivotal moment for Volkswagen, as the brand accelerates its electric transformation across all vehicle segments. With the ID. Polo, Volkswagen is bringing electric mobility to the heart of the compact car segment — one of the most popular and competitive market categories globally.

Volkswagen plans to begin production of the ID. Polo at its Wolfsburg plant, underscoring the company's commitment to manufacturing electric vehicles at its core German facilities. The ID. Polo will be positioned as a key volume model in Volkswagen's electric portfolio, aiming to attract both loyal Polo customers and new buyers transitioning to electric mobility for the first time.
