Dynasty Star Joan Collins, 93, Reveals Her Secrets to Aging with Grace and Vitality

Date:

At 93 years old, legendary "Dynasty" star Joan Collins is proving that age is truly just a number. The iconic actress, who continues to work steadily and stars in the upcoming film "My Duchess," recently shared her personal philosophy on aging gracefully during an appearance at Variety’s Women of Power event.

"I just love life," Collins told The Independent at the event. "I wake up every morning and breathe the air, try to get a good night’s sleep, drink lots of water and take care of myself."

The Emmy-nominated star credits a combination of good genes, disciplined habits, and a positive outlook for her enduring vitality. She revealed that her father lived to 87, a remarkable age for someone born in 1903, and that her mother was ahead of her time when it came to health and wellness.

"My mother took incredibly exceptional care of me and my sister. When we were growing up, she gave us all kinds of supplements when nobody was taking supplements," Collins recalled.

Collins also shared that she maintains her physique with regular exercise, though she keeps it gentle. "I work out with my trainer a couple of times a week. Just basic Pilates-type exercises rather than using one of those reformer Pilates machines," she explained. As for walking, the actress admitted she finds it dull: "It bores me. I’ll walk around my apartment tweaking the flowers, but that’s about it."

When she needs a confidence boost, Collins turns to classic cinema. "If you’re very lucky, you might manage to find an old Bette Davis film once in a while," she said, adding that she also enjoys films from the 1980s and 1990s featuring stars like Jack Nicholson and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The star also credits a surprising source for her youthful spirit: her 32-year-younger husband, producer Percy Gibson, whom she married in 2002. After several high-profile relationships, Collins believes she has found lasting love with Gibson, whom she describes as "a really nice, kind, grounded person."

"First of all, we were great pals before we got married," Collins told Fox News Digital. "We worked together on a play. We enjoyed each other’s company. We hung out together. We saw each other the following year. We wrote love letters. It was a gradual thing. And we realized that we were very much on the same wavelength."

For Collins, their significant age gap is "just a number," and she believes it is "never too late" to find love at any stage of life. In her memoir "Behind the Shoulder Pads," she wrote that Gibson was never concerned about their age difference because "I have great vitality and enthusiasm for life and all it has to offer." She added with a laugh, "Percy often admits that I can wear him out!"

Born with what she describes as a "tremendous enthusiasm for life," Collins reflected on her enduring approach to living well. "My mother used to say that I never kept still when I was a child. I used to do five different things at once," she recalled. "Life is a gift. That’s why they call it the present — it’s a gift. And so many people waste it. It’s so sad. It’s a gift, and it does not last very long."

With a new movie on the horizon and the same indomitable spirit that made her a television icon, Joan Collins continues to inspire fans across generations to embrace life with passion, grace, and a willingness to find joy at every age.
