Havertz, Ayari and Balogun lead Golden Boot race at World Cup 2026

Date:

Germany forward Kai Havertz and Sweden midfielder Yasin Ayari have joined USA striker Folarin Balogun at the front of the pack in the race for the adidas Golden Boot, awarded to the top scorer at FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Balogun, the 25-year-old Monaco player, struck twice in the first half of the co-hosts' 4-1 win over Paraguay in their opening Group D encounter, becoming the first player to score multiple goals for the Stars and Stripes in a World Cup match since 1930.

Havertz bagged a brace for Germany in their resounding 7-1 win over World Cup newcomers Curaçao, with Ayari scoring a superb brace in Sweden's 5-1 victory over Tunisia later the same day.

With several of the 48 teams involved still to take to the field, further movement in the scoring charts is expected in the coming days and weeks.
