Mariska Hargitay Sprints from Broadway Stage to Knicks NBA Finals in Epic New York Moment

Date:

Mariska Hargitay proved she is the ultimate New Yorker this week by sprinting from her Broadway debut straight to Madison Square Garden to witness the Knicks' historic NBA Finals comeback victory against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Emmy-winning actress, best known for her iconic role as Detective Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: SVU," is currently starring in her first Broadway production, the one-person show "Every Brilliant Thing" at the Hudson Theatre. After a demanding two-show day featuring a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening performance Wednesday, Hargitay did not hesitate — she ran approximately ten blocks to MSG.

"I took four minutes off the running time of my show, and I knew the traffic would be crazy, so I sprinted from the Hudson Theater on 44th and 6th to MSG," Hargitay shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "But I knew everything was going to be alright, because I was wearing my Jalen Brunson Kobe 5 Protos that Jalen gave me a few months ago. But I'm not gonna lie, the ten block sprint after a 2-show day was no joke."

The play ended at 8:27 p.m. ET Wednesday night, and by tip-off, Hargitay was courtside wearing a custom "Stevie Knicks" shirt — a gift from her seatmate, global superstar Taylor Swift, who was dressed in a matching look. The two cheered side by side as the Knicks mounted the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, ultimately winning 107-106 on a one-handed tip-in from OG Anunoby with seconds remaining.

Hargitay, who has developed a close friendship with Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, described the experience as one of the most breathtaking nights of her life. "I love my husband, and our wedding night was great and all, but I think it might have been the greatest night of my life," she said. "The game was so brutal, down 29 at the half, but I'm telling you, to watch this team fight and claw their way back — to see that look in Jalen's eyes — there are just endless life lessons in there."

Her courtship with the Knicks has been a highlight of this season's NBA Finals. From running onto the court to embrace players after the final buzzer to sharing popcorn with Swift, Hargitay has become an emblem of the passion that unites sports and entertainment in New York City.

"And then OG comes flying in, his orange and blue cape fluttering behind him, and then it's just pandemonium," Hargitay continued. "It'll get replayed again and again, not just as an epic moment in basketball, but on the highlight reel of the best moments in sports. And all I could think was 'THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!' And 'OH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!' And 'OH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS CITY!!!'"

For fans, Hargitay's sprint from Broadway to the Garden represents the very essence of New York — where art, sport, and lifestyle converge in unforgettable fashion. The Knicks' championship victory not only ended a 53-year title drought but brought together a city spotlighting stars from every corner of entertainment.
