Amid reports that Perikatan Nasional (PN) had held prior discussions with state Umno to unseat Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, Negeri Sembilan Umno has denied allegations of plotting to bring down the state unity government.
Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid, Negeri Sembilan Wanita Umno chief, was quoted by Free Malaysia Today and The Star as saying that those spreading such claims should provide evidence. She described the allegations as an attempt to shift attention from what she called constitutional and customary law crises facing the state.
"But if there is none, then please stop this culture of slander and speculation as the spreading of such talk will only erode the people's confidence in democratic institutions," she said in a statement.
The denial responds to reports of a 13-page letter allegedly from Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to PAS leaders, dated May 25. The letter reportedly suggested PN had held discussions with state Umno about unseating Aminuddin before 14 Negeri Sembilan Umno assemblymen withdrew their support for the Menteri Besar.
The state assembly was dissolved on June 5, triggering the upcoming elections. Barisan Nasional has since confirmed it will contest the Negeri Sembilan state election solo, marking a significant political realignment in a state where Umno has traditionally been the dominant force.
The Election Commission has yet to announce official nomination and polling dates for the Negeri Sembilan state election.
