Amanah Targets Parit Yaani and Kota Iskandar in Johor State Polls Comeback

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is setting its sights on reclaiming several Johor state seats it previously held, including Parit Yaani and Kota Iskandar, as the party prepares for the upcoming Johor state election.

Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan confirmed that the two constituencies are among the 19 seats the party intends to contest. He expressed confidence in Amanah's ability to mount a strong challenge even in constituencies widely regarded as Barisan Nasional (BN) strongholds.

"Amanah will also field candidates in Permas, Kemelah, Tenang, Serom, Maharani and Bukit Pasir," he told Bernama, detailing the party's electoral strategy.

The 19-seat target represents Amanah's ambition to rebuild its presence in Johor, where it currently holds only one seat — Simpang Jeram — following the 2022 state election. Aminolhuda, who himself won Parit Yaani under PAS in 2013 and later under Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Amanah in 2018, said the party remains determined to expand its foothold across the state.

He added that Amanah was particularly optimistic about its prospects in suburban constituencies, where the party believes its track record of service and governance would resonate with voters.

Meanwhile, Aminolhuda, who also serves as Johor PH chairman, disclosed that the coalition has agreed to allocate the Endau, Pulai Sebatang and Senggarang state seats to PKR. However, discussions are still ongoing regarding the allocation of Puteri Wangsa and Larkin, with no final decision reached yet.

In the 2022 Johor state election, Puteri Wangsa was won by Muda's Puteri Amira Aisya Abd Aziz with a majority of 7,114 votes in a six-cornered contest, while BN's Mohd Hairi Mad Shah won Larkin with a majority of 6,178 votes.

Under the broader PH seat distribution for Johor, DAP will contest 17 seats while PKR will field candidates in 20 constituencies. The seat-sharing negotiations come as all parties finalise their preparations ahead of nomination day.

The Johor state election, expected to be held alongside the Negeri Sembilan polls, is shaping up to be a critical test of political alignments in the peninsula. Both elections will serve as a barometer of public sentiment following shifts in the national political landscape over the past year.

Amanah's strategy of targeting previously held seats reflects a broader PH effort to consolidate support and challenge BN's dominance in Johor, a state long considered a Barisan Nasional stronghold.
