Nearly 6,000 Security Personnel to Be Deployed for Negeri Sembilan State Election

Close to 6,000 police and enforcement personnel will be mobilised across Negeri Sembilan to ensure security and public order throughout the state election period, police have announced.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said a total of 5,953 personnel from various agencies will be deployed, comprising 4,845 senior officers and rank-and-file police personnel, with the remainder drawn from support units including the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) and the police volunteer reserve.

"We are maintaining a high level of readiness through various comprehensive preparations that have been put in place from the outset, including security measures, traffic control, monitoring of campaign activities, law enforcement, and preparations for any eventuality throughout the election period," he told Bernama.

Alzafny stressed that ongoing assessments would continue, with the possibility of requesting reinforcements from other contingents if required to strengthen resources and ensure operational effectiveness.

The police chief affirmed the force's commitment to uphold the rights of all political parties to campaign within the law while maintaining strict oversight of all election-related activities.

"Accordingly, security monitoring and control measures will be intensified to ensure that all campaign activities, including political ceramah, party processions and election-related programmes, are conducted peacefully and in compliance with regulations set by the authorities," he said.

He warned that stern action awaits any individual or party found violating the law, inciting provocation, or engaging in acts that threaten public order and the smooth conduct of the democratic process.

Alzafny also urged political parties, candidates, supporters and the public to embrace political maturity, respect differing views and comply with the law throughout the campaign period. The public was further advised against spreading provocation or false information that could heighten tensions and jeopardise social harmony.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed August 1 as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election, with nomination day set for July 18 and early voting on July 28. The campaign period is expected to intensify over the coming weeks as parties finalise candidate lists and election machinery.

The substantial security deployment underscores the importance of the Negeri Sembilan polls, which are being held alongside the Johor state election. Both elections are seen as significant indicators of political trends in Peninsular Malaysia.
